Is It Acceptable to Wear a Short Dress to Prom

It's my prom in May, and for some reason, I'm all ready stressing out about my dress.

Basically - I don't like long dresses; not my style, I'm really clumsy so I'd probably trip over it, they cost money I don't have, and I'd never wear it again. I know some people wear short dresses, but the ones I've seen I've disliked (too puffy or shapeless, or expensive). The only dresses I've seen that I like are these styles http://www.lipsy.co.uk/store/party-d...is-DR05531_081

I'd possibly get the last one. It's just I'm worried it would be too revealing, too much what you'd wear at a party. I don't want to be really underdressed compared to others! Would it be all right? Like, did anyone wear this at yours? My sister went last year, she said people did wear tight, short dresses, but I showed her the style I wanted and she said they looked very unprom-like and that people wore tights with them, which I don't wanna do? What dress should I get if not that style, I can't find any others I like!? Help please :/

id say they are probably quite casual compared to what most other people will be wearing. but dont stress about it.... you have until MAY to find another one!!!

All three are bbeaauutiful dresses. What I would say is that the school prom is a rare oppourtunity to get to wear a really posh long frock, and the ones you've posted probably would be quite casual compared to what a lot of people would wear. Don't rush to get one and whatever you do, make sure you feel beautiful

It's my prom in may too but I think I'm getting a long dress. I like the last dress the most but I'd say it's more appropriate for the after party rather then the actual prom

They're fine if you're comfortable. There's a happy medium between drowning in poof and a skimpy cocktail dress though.

Our school's prom was quite casual and most people wore dresses similar to the ones you posted - many also wore long maxi style dresses - where whatever you feel comfortable in though

For mine, I had a knee length swing dress and seamed stockings (Loveeeeee 40's/50's style & hate tights) and I had one of the shortest dresses there-most of them were vile puffball things, like a brightly coloured meringue (sp?)
I saw one about that length, maybe a little longer, which looked quite good/formal though. I think it depends how you wear it though.

They are beautiful dresses. But, it's a prom not a night out. Too much skin for a prom. They wouldn't be appropriate for any kind of prom I've gone to. And it's not about the length of the dress but the fact that they are strapless & low as well.

there nice dresses... but not quite prom material in my eyes... there just ok dresses... not wow prom dress dresses... if that makes any sense at all
personally i wore a long slinky number , seems now the fashion is huge puffball long things (think cinderella)... (very much not my cup of tea...) ... all of my school have always worn long dresses, bit of a tradition... we also call it a ball not a prom though... possibly what leads to people wearing such dresses...

but i think it is possible to have something a bit more wow, not hugely expencive... not just a dress...

but go with whatever you feel comfortable in,.... plenty of time yet.... though i would say possibly better to wait till closer, because whats around at the moment are winter colours/materials, and also... chances are you buy something now you'll hate it by summer.... i have so many fancy dresses (4) iv worn just once for this exact reason...

They look fine. You don't want to look like a puff ball.

It will probably be among the shortest there but at the end of the day, you should wear something which you like and feel good in otherwise you'll look back and regret it!

I wore a 'prom' dress like this length wise http://www.beflirtydresses.com/acata...rom-dress.html.

Ones a bit shorter like this http://www.beflirtydresses.com/acata...rom-dress.html are quite popular if you do decide to look for something different. Try browsing in shops rather than online, you might find something that surprises you!

That's the kind of thing EVERYONE wore to my year 11 school prom. We never did the tulle-and-satin meringues, everyone's dress was about 50 quid from Topshop. For year 13 we upped it a bit and went for floaty maxi dresses from Coast/Ted Baker. Just see what your friends are wearing and gauge if it's OK by that.

I think that they're gorgeous. At my prom, there were a variety of dresses worn from extremely formal ones to summery maxi dresses.

The good thing about those dresses is that you could really dress them up with cute heels and nice jewellery. Plus, it's more likely that you'll wear them again so it's value for your money.

Perhaps consult with your friends and see how formal they're planning on dressing. After all, the formality of proms vary from school to school. Really though, it's up to you with what you feel most comfortable and beautiful in

Exactly what I was planning to wear for my prom. My friend's reaction was hilarious. "Oh no, I couldn't wear a 50's dress to prom. I'd be too worried about what other people thought of me."

We have the same problem when I finding my perfect prom dress for my prom night party. Thankfully, I discovered this online store named, The Dress Outlet, it was a light blue cocktail dress. Short cocktail dresses are versatile dresses that can be worn to a variety of events. Hence, even after the party you could use the dress in another occasion. At first, I were hesitant to order online, but when I received the parcel and opened it, I was beyond speechless because the dress was so beautiful!!! All I could say at that time was that it was WORTH THE PRICE! So if I were you go and check out their thdressoutlet.com and their short prom dress collections.
